It is believed to be the most biologically diverse area in the country, and features a range of wildlife – flora and fauna – that is not available anywhere else in the world, let alone the country. The trek begins in the morning after a hearty breakfast at your hotel. Although this is not a hard trail by any measure, you should be prepared to ascend and descend some rugged terrain, surrounded by amazing flora and fauna, as well as the sounds of nature – the calls of exotic birds and animals and the rumbling of the river in the distance.

adventure safari tours wildlife tours in Sri LankaThis is perhaps the most tiring, and most rewarding day of the entire tour. Starting at your accommodation in Belihuloya, you begin a 20 km long trek to Duwili Ella via some rough terrain through riverine forest. The area is very much alive with all kinds of flora and fauna, including deer, giant squirrels, flying squirrels, and primates. Lunch will be had at the half-way point at Hulan Ella, and will continue towards Duwili Ella. Ella in the local Sinhalese language means waterfall, and both these waterfalls (Hulan Ella and Duwili Ella) are formed by tributaries of the Walawe River. The beautiful Duwili Ella gets its name (Duwili means ‘Dust’) from the cloud of spray resembling a cloud of dust.

After the long trail, you will be transferred to Udawalawe for the next step of the tour

udawalawe wildlife tours in sri lankaThe Udawalawe National Park is one of the best places in Sri Lanka to see wild elephants. It is not uncommon to see a whole herd of elephants at a watering hole during your visit. An afternoon / evening safari tour will let you see elephants and many other animals, such as water buffalo, water monitor lizards, saltwater crocodiles, deer, monkeys, and even the occasional leopard. The park is also ideal for bird enthusiasts.

On day 4 of the tour, the highlight is the afternoon/evening safari, where you will get to go deep into the national park to see the wildlife up close.

On day 5, there is something exciting lined up – a 1½ - 2 hour trek through the borderlands of the Udawalawe national park offers a fascinating look at the Wilderness in Udawalawe. Made up of five areas – known as blocks – of which two are now open to the public. Situated in the south-eastern dry zone of Sri Lanka, it is famous as the best place in the world to see leopards in the wild. Wildlife Tours Sri Lanka promises the best leopard safari experience, as our experienced naturalists and guides will take you to the areas known for leopard activity. Leopards are nocturnal, so the best chance of seeing one in the wild is either at dawn or at dusk. This experience gives you an evening safari, enabling you to see leopards as they come out of their daytime slumber. Leopards may be the star attraction at Yala, but elephants, sloth bears, deer, jackals, wild boar, and a few hundred varieties of birds can be found throughout the national park.

Rukan was wonderful and we enjoyed his careful driving as well as his company throughout our journey. His English is very good and we had great conversations. It was nice to gain insight into the history and culture of Sri Lanka by speaking with him.
Our safari guide in Yala (Kasun) was the best! We saw 6 leopards and 3 sloth bears over the course of 4 outings. Compliments to him and the driver. I was worried that 4 safaris would not be enough, but that turned out not to be the case with their expert tracking skills.

We really enjoyed most of the lodges, especially Kings Pavilion, Chena Huts and Buckingham Place. Great rooms, service, and restaurants. Both Buckingham and Kings Pavilion surprised Rick with birthday cakes either in our room or at dinner. Buckingham also had a special table set up for us with flowers and decorations and the staff presented a birthday card signed by all of them!

All the food was wonderful both at the buffets and when ordering a la carte from menus. Pack meals during safaris were also very good with plenty of variety.

We both had a great time in your beautiful country. Thank you for all your help in planning this adventure. I would definitely recommend Eco Tours to my friends and family if they ever want to visit Sri Lanka. You really made us feel special.
