Yala National Parkis renowned for the variety of its wildlife and its fine coastline (with associated coral reefs).  But the key highlight here is the Sri Lankan Leopard. Yala National Park has the highest density of leopards living in the wild. In fact, it is the world's best. It also boasts alarge number of important cultural ruins, bearing testimony to earlier civilizations and indicating that much of the area used to be populated and well developed.

Your best chance to see a leopard is generally first thing in the morning and then again at dusk. The male leopards in Yala are very confident animals and they are often seen walking the tracks during the day. Young males in particular seem to have no fear of the jeep, which can lead to some excellent photographic opportunities. As we are setup very close to the park, you will be first in to the core areas, which are best for wildlife viewing and will be able to avoid long travel time to the park entrance, queuing for permits which take place before safaris begin Even during evening safaris you will be inside until last minute and the entrance to the campsite also mimics the experience of a mini safari through the forest.

Apart from the leopards there are a large number of elephants living inside the park and they can be seen bathing in the numerous lakes in the vicinity. . You can also see spotted deer, sambar, wild boar, wild buffaloes, sloth bear, jackal and mongoose. The bird life is also fantastic and it is amazing how close you can get to them from the confines of the jeep, you can see Rosy Starlings, Paradise Flycatchers, Crested Hawk Eagles, Blue-Tailed Bee-Eaters and Common Loras.

A 4WD open-top safari is the only way to see all the wonders this protected reserve has to offer, and our experienced and knowledgeable nature guides will make this an unforgettable experience.

Rukan was wonderful and we enjoyed his careful driving as well as his company throughout our journey. His English is very good and we had great conversations. It was nice to gain insight into the history and culture of Sri Lanka by speaking with him.
Our safari guide in Yala (Kasun) was the best! We saw 6 leopards and 3 sloth bears over the course of 4 outings. Compliments to him and the driver. I was worried that 4 safaris would not be enough, but that turned out not to be the case with their expert tracking skills.

We really enjoyed most of the lodges, especially Kings Pavilion, Chena Huts and Buckingham Place. Great rooms, service, and restaurants. Both Buckingham and Kings Pavilion surprised Rick with birthday cakes either in our room or at dinner. Buckingham also had a special table set up for us with flowers and decorations and the staff presented a birthday card signed by all of them!

All the food was wonderful both at the buffets and when ordering a la carte from menus. Pack meals during safaris were also very good with plenty of variety.

We both had a great time in your beautiful country. Thank you for all your help in planning this adventure. I would definitely recommend Eco Tours to my friends and family if they ever want to visit Sri Lanka. You really made us feel special.
