Bird Watching at Kumana National Park

AVAILABILITY: Throughout the Year

TOUR OPTIONS: Early Morning or Late Afternoon Jeep Safaris

Kumana National Park is a beautiful and secluded nature reserve that is home to a spectacular variety of both migratory and resident birds. Almost half of Sri Lanka’s bird species have been recorded here, including more than 35 species of migratory aquatic birds that are escaping northern winters.

Kumana National Park is known to be home to three of the Big Five mammals in Sri Lanka. The elusive Sri Lankan Leopard, Sloth Bear and the majestic Elephant can often be seen in this park.

Safari options are half-day and full-day, although we recommend that you choose the full-day option since there is a lot to see and do in Kumana. One of Sri Lanka’s best surfing locations, Arugam Bay, is just a hop, step and jump from Kumana National Park. If you decide to take a break from birdwatching and chasing leopards, you can head over to Arugam Bay and enjoy its world famous beaches and surfing swells.

Wildlife Tours Sri Lanka is the leading Birding company in Sri Lanka and we provide visitors with a wide range of birding tours around the country. All of our tours are handled by an experienced naturalist who helps you spot birds and other inhabitants while giving you an in-depth description of the park and its history.
