On the next few days witness the wonder of mammoth elephants and majestic leopards at two of Sri Lanka’s best parks - Yala and Udawala. Enjoy incredible Safari tours, including a night tour, which will allow you to not just experience but also learn about the diversity of flora and fauna that Sri Lanka has to offer.
Make your way to picturesque Galle situated in the southern coast of the island to get a glimpse of the deep blue sea and the wonderful cultural treasures it has to offer. End your tour at this beautiful location with a hearty breakfast under the warm tropical sun.
Itinerary
Day 1
- Arrival and welcome by our representative at the airport
- Transfer to Colombo and check in at Colombo hotel
- Relax/explore Colombo
- Overnight stay at a Colombo hotel
Once you arrive at the airport in Katunayake, you will be guided by our representative to Colombo, the commercial and cultural capital of Sri Lanka where you will be spending your first day in the country.
Colombo offers an array of exciting attractions and activities for any traveller to indulge in. The city is adorned with unique architecture, cultural and religious destinations, vibrant markets and places of biological importance such as wetlands. The Colombo wetlands are ideal for observing many bird, butterfly and dragonfly species including migrants. If you are lucky you may also come across varieties of reptiles, amphibians and mammals while exploring the Baddagana or Attidiya parks. You can spend your day exploring the many wonders of Colombo and enjoy a luxurious stay at a Colombo hotel during your first night in Sri Lanka.
Day 2
- Transfer from Colombo to Udawalawe following breakfast
- Check in at the Udawalawe Big Game Camping Site
- Late night safari at Udawalawe National Park
- Overnight stay at Udawalawe Hotel
On your second day, you will travel to Udawalawe. You will check in at the Udawalawe Big Game Campaign site located in the National Park which is considered as one of Sri Lanka’s finest parks to observe incredible elephants. An elephant population of over 600 are believed to be resident in the park. It is also home to other mammals such as monkeys, sambar and spotted deer, leopard, jackal and mongoose. In addition, you can also see crocodiles, waders and beautiful forest birds such as the Malabar Hornbill. A night safari in the park will give you the opportunity to see some of the finest nocturnals in Sri Lanka. You will conclude your day at a luxury hotel in Udawalawe.
Day 3
- Leave Udawalawe and transfer to Yala following breakfast
- Visit the Elephant Transit Home in Udawalawe on the way
- En route safari at Bundala National Park
- Check in at Yala hotel/Camping site
- Overnight stay at Yala hotel/camping site
The third day of your adventure will begin at the Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home. A visit to this location is always a heartwarming experience for anyone. The home provides refuge to a large number of juvenile elephants that have been orphaned or separated by their herds. You can watch them stream out in a line to receive their milk feed and enjoy playing with each other. The baby elephants in the home range from just a few months to five years of age.
Your next destination, the Bundala National Park is a Ramsar site famous for housing a large number of resident and migrant waterfowls. Bundala has over 200 bird species including rare species such as the black-necked stork and great thick-knee. Between the months of October and March you can experience unique sights of over 10,000 shorebird feeding in the shallow water in unison. The park is also home to both crocodile species that exist in the country, the freshwater crocodile and the estuarine crocodile - which is the largest reptile alive today.
In addition, you can also see a large number of mammals and four out of five sea turtle species in Sri lanka who come ashore to lay eggs in the coastal region of the park.
Your final destination for the day will be Yala where you will check in to a hotel or camping site close to the Yala National Park for a relaxing night.
Day 4
- Full day Safari at Yala National Park
- Breakfast and Lunch inside the park
- Overnight stay at the Big Game Camping Site Yala
You will have an early beginning on the fourth day of your journey at Yala National Park. Yala is the second largest national park in Sri Lanka which is home to a large density of leopards. You can witness leopards majestically walking along the tracks or relaxing on a tree branch. You will also have the opportunity to see other mammals such as the spotted and sambar deer, wild boar, wild buffalo, sloth bear, jackal and mongoose while at the park. In addition, a wide variety of bird species can be seen in Yala. Our campsite’s location close to the park’s entrance allows you to access all of the park’s core areas and remain in the park until the very brink of sunset. A full day of Safari at the park will come to an end at the camping site.
Day 5
- Transfer to Galle following breakfast
- Check in at Galle hotel
- Relax or explore Galle
- Evening walk at Galle Dutch Fort
The next morning you will make your way to Sri Lanka’s favourite tourist destination in the South - Galle. Galle was Sri Lanka’s first international commerce and trade centre and is currently one of the most famous tourist attractions in the country. After you check in at a hotel in Galle you can explore the many wonders the city has to offer. The Galle Fort which is a UNESCO World Heritage site is situated overlooking the vast blue ocean which sometimes welcomes sea turtles that can be viewed from the fort top. The fort is adorned with small boutiques, museums. churches and local homes that all have a very unique charm to them. Galle is also famous for Unawatuna Bay which is a breathtaking cove protected by a reef that is perfect for swimming. You can unwind by taking a relaxing walk through the streets of the Galle Durtch fort and return back to your hotel after sunset.
Day 6
Your last morning in Sri Lanka will also be spent in picturesque Galle where you can enjoy a hearty breakfast and reminisce on the adventure you just concluded. You will then be taken to the airport well before departure.
